In today’s world of high-performance AMG cars like the GT63 S and the AMG GT Black Series, it can be easy to overlook the past AMG legends that once dominated the automotive industry. One such example is the AMG Hammer, known as the fastest passenger sedan in the world with a top speed of 190 mph.
There are differing accounts regarding the exact number of road-going CLK GTRs produced. Most sources indicate that around twenty-five units were made, consisting of twenty coupes and five roadsters (some suggest there might be six roadsters). Regardless of the exact number, there are fewer than thirty units in existence today, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item. The CLK GTR is even more rare than iconic cars like the Ferrari F40, F50, McLaren F1, and the Jaguar XJ220.
Initially valued at $1.5 million upon its release, the worth of the CLK GTR has significantly appreciated over the years. This brings us to a recent auction event by Gooding & Company in 2021, where a perfectly preserved CLK GTR with less than 1,000 miles on its odometer was put up for sale. Despite receiving a high bid of $7 million, the car remained unsold at the auction, indicating that the sellers believed the CLK GTR Strassenversion was worth considerably more. And they might just be correct.
