Porsche has introduced the 911 Dakar to give sports car enthusiasts a whole new experience with a touch of the great outdoors.
The 911 Dakar is a unique all-wheel-drive vehicle that combines the features of an off-roader with the sleek design of a sports car. While this concept isn’t entirely new for Porsche, as they have previously entered a lifted 911 in the Paris-Dakar rally, this version is fully street legal.
This new model is based on the Carrera 4 GTS but has been raised by 1.96 inches, with the option to further increase the ride height to 3.15 inches using an onboard lift system. It is equipped with special Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires for better off-road performance.
Externally, the 911 Dakar boasts a rugged body kit that includes fender flares and protective skid plates. It also features a fixed rear spoiler and a carbon hood borrowed from the 911 GT3. Inside, drivers will find bucket seats and lightweight glass components.
Under the hood, the 911 Dakar is powered by the same twin-turbo flat-6 engine as the Carrera 4 GTS, delivering 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an 8-speed PDK transmission. The vehicle introduces two new driving modes – Rallye and Off-Road. While it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, its top speed is electronically limited to 150 mph.
Porsche plans to produce only 2,500 units of the 911 Dakar, each priced at $220,000. Additionally, Lamborghini is set to unveil its own all-terrain supercar, the Huracan Sterrato, later this month.
