The Ferrari F40 stands as the spiritual successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO and was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the brand. Notably, it represents the last Ferrari model to receive personal endorsement from the company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari. These factors alone establish the F40 as an exceptional vehicle.
Upon its introduction in 1987, the Ferrari F40 claimed the titles of fastest, most powerful, and costliest production car from the legendary Italian manufacturer. This vehicle made no apologies as a high-performance machine, featuring a twin-turbocharged V8 that generated an impressive 471 horsepower, allowing it to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
Though it was not originally designed for racing purposes, Daniel Marin, the managing director of French Ferrari importer Charles Pozzi SA, persuaded Ferrari to permit Michelotto, a well-known Ferrari service center, to create a limited series of F40 LMs for IMSA racing in the United States. A total of nineteen of these racing variants were manufactured.
