This stunning Alfa Romeo automobile has traveled from Italy to Poland to Australia to California.
This car was originally a five-passenger saloon built in Italy for an Alfa Romeo enthusiast in Poland. It went missing during World War II and resurfaced as a chassis without an engine. The car was then purchased by a collector in Australia who decided to reconstruct it to resemble the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Berlinetta Competizione that raced in the 1940 Mille Miglia.
In the 1940 Mille Miglia, the same race that the 1940 Alfa Romeo competed in, driven by Count Trossi and Ascanio Lucchi, the car finished an impressive 8th place.
This car retains its racing heritage with a period-correct engine, wooden body buck, and lightweight aluminum Superleggera (“lightweight”) body by Touring.
The car was put up for sale at RM Sotheby’s 2023 Monterey auction, but the reserve price was not met, and the car did not sell. It was showcased at the Classic Sports Racing Group Charity Challenge at the Sonoma Raceway and captured the attention of many.
