Last year, Lexus redesigned the NX and introduced the NX 450h+, a model known for its efficiency with an electric-only range and impressive speed. The vehicle is based on the same platform as the Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid and features a
2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and hybrid system, delivering a combined 302 horsepower. With all-wheel drive, it offers a 37-mile electric-only range, slightly less than the RAV4 Prime’s 42 miles.
Charging is efficient, taking only four and a half hours with a Level 2 240-volt charger using the standard 3.3-kW onboard charger, and reducing to two and a half hours with the optional 6.6-kW charger.
The NX 450h+ offers another advantage over other trim levels—performance. It achieves a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 seconds, compared to the slower 8.6 seconds of the NX 250 AWD and NX 350h AWD, which reach 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. Additionally, it provides a superior ride and suspension setup compared to other NX models, emphasizing comfort over sport.
Internally, the 450h+ features a new 14.0-inch touchscreen as part of an improved infotainment system, with a standard 9.8-inch screen. However, the digital instrument cluster lacks a modern aesthetic and the steering wheel controls can be challenging to use. The vehicle also includes wireless charging, but the design is flawed, causing iPhones to easily lose connection.
The 2023 Lexus NX 450h+ starts at $57,705, aiming to provide a strong entry into the plug-in hybrid market with its extended electric range and enhanced power, making it an appealing option for hybrid vehicle enthusiasts.
