The Ferrari 512 TR, launched in 1992, was a notable upgrade of the renowned Testarossa model by Ferrari, boasting 428bhp and a top speed of over 186mph. The front end was redesigned by Pininfarina, improved under-body aerodynamics were introduced, and it came equipped with 18″ wheels. Production of the 512 TR ended in 1994 with a total of 2,280 units produced.
The 512 TR Spyder set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s next month is one of just two right-hand drive models that were transformed by Pininfarina into an open-top Spyder design. Originally commissioned by Alfred Tan of Hong Seh Motors in Singapore for the Brunei Royal Family, known for their affinity for customized Ferrari models in the 1980s and 1990s.
This particular car showcases a distinctive color scheme of Blu Cobalto with Blu Scuro Connolly leather interior, complemented by matching carpets and a power-operated soft top. It was part of Tan’s personal collection and was put on display.Ferrari celebrated its 50th Anniversary in Rome back in 1997. After very little use for more than 30 years, the car received a thorough makeover in 2023, with over 500 hours of work and an investment of $65,000.
Having covered fewer than 575 kilometers (360 miles), this 512 TR Spyder is a rare collector’s item, providing a unique chance to own one of the limited custom aperta versions of the 512 TR, meticulously preserved and in high demand.
This unique Ferrari 512 TR is set to go up for auction at RM Sotheby’s Monterey event in 2024 with an estimated value of $2,700,000 – $3,500,000 USD.
