Since being acquired by Geely, Lotus has shifted its focus towards electric vehicles, moving away from its classic emphasis on lightweight, nimble sports cars. To honor its legacy while embracing this new direction, Lotus has unveiled the Theory 1 concept car. This new model represents the “Lotus Theory,” integrating digital, natural, and analog engineering to pave the way for upcoming vehicles.
The Theory 1 is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system and is powered by a 70 kW battery that delivers an impressive electric range of up to 250 miles. With a powerhouse output of 1,000 horsepower, it can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in less than 2.5 seconds. Staying true to Lotus’s commitment to lightness, the vehicle is constructed from sustainable materials such as recycled carbon fiber, polycarbonate, and cellulose composites.
Its design is heavily influenced by Lotus’s rich history in Formula 1, featuring striking components like a rear diffuser, laser headlights, and a body that facilitates airflow. Inside, the cabin showcases a minimalist aesthetic while incorporating modern technology, including a central driver’s seat and “motor skins” in the seats that provide haptic feedback.
Tom Ford from Top Gear magazine had the chance to closely examine the Theory 1 and engage with key figures from Lotus for an insightful look at this groundbreaking concept vehicle.
