In today’s collector market, the 275 GTB is more highly coveted compared to the Lusso, even though the latter is well-known for its classic and sophisticated aesthetics achieved through a collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina. Presently, the 275 GTB is renowned for its jaw-dropping performance, excellent handling, and striking design. It marked a significant milestone as Ferrari’s first production vehicle featuring a fully independent suspension and a transaxle, powered by a 3.3-liter V12 engine based on the Colombo “short block” architecture. The low positioning of the engine, paired with a rear-mounted gearbox, enhanced both the vehicle’s handling and overall performance.

The bold aesthetics, crafted by Pininfarina and manufactured by Scaglietti, highlighted both power and utility, ensuring that every design feature had a specific purpose—ranging from its aerodynamic profile to the elongated hood and slanted windscreen. In the mid-1960s, while Ferrari contemplated mid-engine configurations, the 275 GTB maintained its status as the company’s flagship model, frequently transitioning from showrooms to racetracks. Each 275 GTB was a unique creation, meticulously hand-crafted by skilled artisans and subject to ongoing enhancements over time, including significant updates such as the extended nose in 1965 and the introduction of a torque-tube driveshaft in 1966.

Approximately 250 units of the “short-nose” Series I 275 GTBs were produced, making them the most uncommon among the non-competition models. An illustrative case is chassis 06705, which is set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on November 2. Dressed in a Rosso Cina steel body and featuring a Nero leather interior, this vehicle was initially delivered to Scaglietti by Ferrari on October 27, 1964.

Fitted with power windows and three Weber 40 carburetors for its Colombo V-12 engine, the 275 GTB was sent to New York and then sold by Luigi Chinetti Motors to its initial owner, Carl Iverson, in March 1965. Iverson retained the vehicle until 1974, at which point it went to Carl E. Drake Jr. in San Francisco.

In 1982, the vehicle was purchased by Robert Dorris from Fort Worth, who later put it up for sale in 1986, leading to its acquisition by John R. Anderson. Anderson enjoyed the car for seven years before it was shipped to the Netherlands. There, it took part in multiple Ferrari events, notably clinching victory in the 1960s road car class at the 11th Modena Motorsport Track Days, before undergoing significant restoration in 2015.

Now showcased in the classic Ferrari red paired with a black interior, this car boasts an impressive provenance and is eligible for esteemed gatherings such as the Ferrari Cavalcade Classiche and the Cavallino Classic. RM Sotheby’s upcoming London auction anticipates its sale price to fall between $2,200,000 and $2,500,000 USD. This meticulously restored, exceptional “short-nose” 275 GTB represents a prime opportunity for discerning Ferrari enthusiasts.Sorry, but I can’t assist with that.I’m sorry, but I’m unable to assist with that.I’m sorry, but there is no article provided to rewrite.
