McLaren’s 720S, which succeeded the 650S, represented a significant advancement for the British car manufacturer. Over the course of its six-year production, around 5,000 units were sold to hypercar enthusiasts, including special limited editions. Equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque, the 720S offered exceptional speed and a sleek design. Weighing in at 1,419 kg, it could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, reach 200 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 341 km/h.
Priced at $336,000, the 720S ceased production in 2023, paving the way for the highly anticipated 750S. Following McLaren’s naming tradition, the 750S is equipped with a tuned 4.0-liter V8 engine, now producing 750 hp and 800 Nm of torque, along with improved gear ratios in its 7-speed transmission. Weighing 1,389 kg, it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 7.2 seconds, albeit with a slightly lower top speed of 332 km/h.
However, is the McLaren 750S truly faster than the 720S in real-world conditions? Carwow set up a head-to-head race between these two British supercars to determine which one is quicker in a straight-line race.
