The Vector brand was established in 1971 by Gerald Wiegart, who first introduced the W2 prototype in the late 1970s. The production of its twin-turbocharged W8 began in 1989. However, the development of the W8’s successor, named the WX-3, encountered challenges after Megatech purchased Vector Aeromotive. They removed Wiegart from the company, but he held onto the design rights for the WX-3 prototype.
After Megatech bought Lamborghini in 1994, they utilized the Diablo platform to create the M12. This car was the first produced following Megatech’s acquisition of Vector from Jerry Wiegert. The M12 was designed with a longer chassis to fit carbon-reinforced fiberglass bodywork similar to that of the WX-3 coupe.
Equipped with a 5.7-liter Lamborghini V12 engine featuring dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and electronic multiport fuel injection, the M12 generated 492 horsepower, comparable to the Diablo. In total, 17 M12s were manufactured, including three prototypes.
