Honda has finally revealed the awaited 2023 Honda Civic Type R, showcasing the new hot hatch at an event in Los Angeles. While specific details are still under wraps, what we do know is that the 2023 Civic Type R will feature an updated version of its current 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission with automatic rev-matching. Honda confirms that the upgraded engine will offer even more power and responsiveness than its predecessor, which currently delivers 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Among the noticeable performance enhancements are the new 265/30-series Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires mounted on 19-inch wheels, a departure from the previous model’s 245/30 tires on 20-inch wheels.
Regarding chassis improvements, Honda is tight-lipped, only mentioning “enhanced suspension and steering performance.” The new Civic Type R has already shown its prowess by setting a new front-wheel drive track record at the Suzuka Circuit. As expected, Brembo brakes are retained to ensure optimal control.
Unlike the previous model known for its overly aggressive styling, Honda has refined the exterior design of the 2023 Civic Type R, giving it a sleeker and more sophisticated appearance. The rear still features a notable wing, and the three center-mounted exhaust tips remain. Recaro-like, suede-clad sport seats are provided for the driver and front passenger.
The interior of the new model resembles the current Civic hatchback, boasting a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Overall, Honda has made subtle exterior tweaks to the Civic Type R, retaining much of its existing features.
Pricing for the 2023 Civic Type R has not been disclosed, but it is scheduled for release in the fall.
