When a Rolls Royce leaves the factory, there is a certain air of confidence that it will be adored and marvelled at by many around the globe. Similarly, when a skilled customizer embarks on transforming an old Rolls Royce, the expectation is that it will emerge as a striking and attention-grabbing topic of conversation in town.
Mechanic Sam Hard from Farnham, Hampshire took on the challenge of revamping a Rolls Royce previously owned by Lord Tredegar, a renowned British aristocrat known for his flamboyant lifestyle. Sam drew parallels between the aristocrat’s extravagant lifestyle and the unique features that a vehicle of this caliber possesses.
Recalling Lord Tredegar, Sam shared, “He had fighting kangaroos, flamingos in his field, and even a talking parrot that he would place down his trousers. At parties, the parrot would unzip his trousers with its claw, poke its head out, and engage with the guests.”
Working alongside his team, they spent three months modifying the Rolls Royce rat rod, constructed partially with aluminum. Fitted with a Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 engine, their creation packed such a punch that it instilled fear in the team, delaying the moment of pushing it to its limits due to their apprehension.
Describing the vehicle’s potency, Sam explained, “The power-to-weight ratio is comparable to a Ferrari, it’s astounding. When you accelerate, it’s quite intimidating because this machine is a powerhouse.”
