Maserati’s MCXtrema, a powerful 730-hp supercar, is back on the track for testing ahead of the first models being delivered in late summer 2024. The MCXtrema, designed as a track-only race car with just 62 units worldwide, aims to set new standards and push boundaries. Combining the essence of Maserati’s DNA and high-performance features, the MCXtrema is showcasing its innovative racing spirit on the circuit, where experts are conducting crucial tests to fine-tune its performance. This exclusive Maserati creation is a bold evolution from the MC20 super sports car that inspired it.

In February, the MCXtrema made its debut at the Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari (Parma), with Maserati’s top test driver Andrea Bertolini behind the wheel. Bertolini, a renowned driver with four GT class world titles, has been instrumental in refining the MCXtrema’s performance using advanced simulation techniques. The shakedown in February and subsequent testing phases have allowed the 730-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, based on Maserati’s Nettuno engine, to showcase its full potential on the track.

The MCXtrema vehicle has been enriched by cutting-edge technology and equipment. The Virtual Analysis team played a significant role in utilizing advanced technology in the Maserati dynamic simulator. The Powertrain Calibration team was responsible for managing the substantial power produced by the Nettuno engine. The meticulous development process of the Maserati MC20 involved detailed component characterization and rigorous engine bench tests, ensuring exceptional accuracy in simulations. This approach led to a high-performing car that underwent extensive track testing, closely mirroring the simulator validations for real-world adjustments.

Extensive virtual testing has been conducted on the MCXtrema, including approximately 200 hours in the Maserati dynamic simulator and 1,000 hours of virtual analysis, in addition to feedback from track evaluations. This, combined with the extensive development work on the MC20 and rigorous engine reliability assessments over the past four years, has resulted in the creation of a vehicle that epitomizes advanced engineering and innovation. The design excellence by Maserati Centro Stile harmonizes with the aerodynamic efficiency required for various track configurations.

In the words of Andrea Bertolini, the Chief Test Driver at Maserati, “When you take a brand-new car to the track, it always gives you a unique and special feeling, much like the MCXtrema. This incredible creation is built to conquer the roads and glide through corners, a true masterpiece of engineering and aerodynamics that offers exceptional balance and handling. For months, we collaborated with a dedicated team of experts, eagerly anticipating the moment we could unleash the final product in its natural habitat after subjecting it to rigorous virtual simulations. What sets this car apart is the exceptional teamwork that has resulted in a futuristic sports car. With the MCXtrema, we have pushed the boundaries of development even further, keeping the track in mind and always prioritizing the needs of the Maserati customer, who is at the center of our efforts and for whom this car is designed. The cockpit has been crafted around the driver, resembling a blend of a fighter jet and a Formula 1 single-seater. The MCXtrema is an evolution of the MC20 without road certification: as Maserati’s ultimate super sports car, we painstakingly honed its handling and overall design to create this ultimate, extreme, and thrilling version. Driving the MCXtrema is a unique experience unlike any other car.”

The MCXtrema is a special project where Maserati involves its customers in the creation process. The Maserati MCXlusiva program offers an exclusive and personalized experience to the 62 customers who will own this exceptional car. This program allows customers to be part of the car’s design journey, ensuring that every detail is tailored to their preferences.

Maserati ensures a unique and exclusive experience for the future owners of the MCXtrema. The MCXlusiva program offers customization options in three variants – Tech Beast, Corse, and Speed Beast, each with its own identity and racing spirit. Customers can choose from these variants to personalize their car, with the option of a special Blue Xtrema color created for this exceptional vehicle by Maserati Centro Stile.

The car features additional customization options such as a choice between Matte Black or Grigio Corsa Bright wheel rims and three seat versions in Blue, Black, or Ice colors. Customers looking for a more unique touch can opt for the BEASTspoke variant, where they can choose a personalized number for the livery and the color of the steering wheel grips. Another personalized detail is the “one of 62” plate inside the passenger compartment, which can be engraved with the MCXtrema customer’s name or any other desired inscription meant for the track.

Maserati has introduced MCXperience for MCXtrema owners, offering exclusive services to immerse customers in the Maserati racing world. MCXperience includes access to on-track experiences, a Concierge service, and the MCXtrema kit designed in collaboration with Maserati Centro Stile to make owners feel like professional racers in the MCXtrema.

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, expressed, “MCXtrema embodies the pinnacle of Maserati Corse’s racing lineup, transcending being just a track-focused car. Built around this iconic racing vehicle known for its exceptional power, exclusivity, and unmatched quality, we have created a complete universe for 62 of the brand’s enthusiasts who are passionate about the thrill of driving on the race track. MCXtrema is a remarkable and fearless car, crafted to fulfill a unique desire without hesitation—a true marvel of racing”.
