The Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution hypercar achieved a groundbreaking feat by establishing a new lap record for a production road car at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA). It completed the 3.41-mile-long track in an impressive time of 2 minutes and 10.90 seconds, surpassing the McLaren P1 by 7 seconds and edging out the prior record holder, the Czinger C21, by 0.34 seconds. This achievement firmly establishes the Venom F5 as one of the fastest American cars ever produced.
The vehicle is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 6.6L V8 engine that churns out an astonishing 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed single-clutch, semi-automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters.
During testing conducted by their resident driver, David Donohue, the Venom F5 showcased exceptional cornering and braking abilities, achieving up to +1.59 G in corners and -1.61 G under braking. This remarkable performance is attributed to its MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, Brembo brakes, carbon ceramic discs, and advanced Bosch ABS technology.
The record-setting lap timing was facilitated by RACELOGIC using their VBOX satellite telemetry and data logging systems. The Venom F5 ran on street legal tires and standard Pennzoil fluids, fueled by regular Shell pump ethanol during the lap.
