Back in 2002, quattro GmbH, later known as Audi Sport GmbH, crafted a true masterpiece – the Audi RS6 based on the C5. This high-performance vehicle, positioned in the upper mid-range segment, was introduced as the successor to the Audi RS4. The dedicated Audi engineers at quattro GmbH embarked on a significant endeavor to transform the A6 into a sports car. This involved not only enhancing the engine, suspension, and transmission but also elevating its visual appeal to a more dynamic level.
During the design process, the RS6 saw an increase in size by four centimeters (1.6 in) in both length and width. Additional features such as new skirts, broader sills, a rear spoiler for the Avant version, a distinctive breakaway edge for the Sedan model, and 18” or 19” wheels were added. The inclusion of two oval tailpipes further emphasized its sporty character. This marked the beginning of an incredible two-decade journey spanning across multiple generations.
