My week with the new Hyundai Kona N line flew by and frankly, if I was in the market for a sub compact SUV , this one is worth considering. I got a lot of compliments on the exterior color and questions about this small but mighty SUV.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line AWD blends sporty looks with practical features, making it a compelling option in the subcompact SUV segment. Here’s a breakdown of its key features:
Exterior
The Kona N Line’s exterior design is bold and aggressive, standing out with its sporty accents. Its sleeker front grille, horizontal LED running lights, and sharp body lines give it a modern and dynamic look. The distinctive N Line elements include 19-inch alloy wheels, twin-tip exhausts, and a sporty rear spoiler, making the car feel more performance-oriented than the standard models.
Interior
Inside, the N Line trim emphasizes sportiness with red accents, N Line branding, and metal sport pedals. The seats, featuring Alcantara upholstery, are supportive and stylish, while the cabin boasts a tech-forward design. It includes dual 12.3-inch digital displays that integrate the infotainment and driver’s gauge cluster. The Kona also provides more cargo space and legroom compared to its predecessor, making it both comfortable and functional. The Kona is very deceptive in that it has a lot more space than you realize.
Engine and Performance
The N Line AWD model is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. While the engine offers decent power for its class, the transmission can feel sluggish, particularly during downshifts. In terms of driving dynamics, the Kona N Line is more about style than speed—its steering lacks road feedback, and its handling is competent but not overly engaging
Driver Experience
Despite its sporty appearance, I found the the Kona N Line AWD’s performance more about daily comfort than quick thrills. The multi-link rear suspension helps improve ride quality, especially over uneven surfaces. It’s ideal for city and highway use and it is fun to drive and super easy to park and maneuver.
Safety and Technology
Hyundai equips the Kona N Line with plenty of advanced safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. The infotainment system is intuitive, with a fast-responding touchscreen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While the standard N Line lacks some of the top-tier features available in higher trims, it still packs enough tech to satisfy most drivers(
Conclusion
The 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line AWD combines sporty aesthetics with everyday practicality, making it a great choice for those who want a stylish subcompact SUV with good tech and comfort. I don’t think I would choose the Kona if I was seeking a truly performance-oriented vehicle. If you prioritize looks, comfort and daily usability the Kona N Line is worth considering.
