2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 43 Roadster Review

During my time with the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 43 Roadster, I discovered a remarkable fusion of luxury and performance. Against the backdrop of Phoenix’s sunny streets, this convertible proved to be more than just a car—it showcased the perfect combination of sophistication, dynamic design, and cutting-edge technology that defines the Mercedes-Benz brand.

The exterior design of the SL 43 showcases the meticulous craftsmanship and design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. It blends elegance and sportiness with its sculpted lines and aerodynamic profile. The retractable hardtop not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also brings a touch of versatility to the roadster, seamlessly adapting to the driver’s preferences with the touch of a button.

Stepping into the interior, the occupants are greeted with an ambiance of opulence and precision. The “hyper-analog” cockpit, with its analog geometry and digital innovation, enhances the driving experience. The fully digital instrument cluster, integrated into a three-dimensional visor, creates a visually stunning interior. The plush, supportive seats, crafted with premium materials, contribute to a sense of luxury, making every journey a delightful experience for both driver and passenger.

Engine and Transmission:
Under the hood, the technological marvels of the SL 43 unfold. This model is powered by a 375-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Handcrafted AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged M139 engine, featuring an electric exhaust gas turbocharger derived from Formula 1™, delivers instantaneous throttle response. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission, combined with rear-wheel drive, results in an impressive acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds.

Performance Variants:
The SL-class lineup offers a range of powertrains, including the SL 55 and SL 63 models, which are powered by a twin-turbo V-8 engine, offering all-wheel drive and a significant power increase.

Driver Experience:
Navigating the streets of Phoenix in the SL 43 is a captivating experience. The roadster’s low-slung profile ensures that it hugs the road, establishing an intimate connection between driver and asphalt. The tires and the AMG DYNAMICS system provide a variety of driving modes, catering to every whim of the driver.

The SL-class prioritizes safety with active aerodynamics, including the AIRPANEL active air control system and comprehensive driving assistance systems integrated into the MBUX technology.

The MBUX infotainment system, featuring the “Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant, integrates seamlessly with the large 11.9-inch touchscreen display. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the standard Burmester stereo system enhance the driving experience.

Comfort and Convenience:
Nappa leather-clad seats, a cabin designed to minimize noise and vibrations, and ample storage space highlight the SL 43’s commitment to luxury and practicality.

In conclusion, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 43 Roadster redefines the boundaries of luxury and performance, with its exterior design, interior opulence, and technological innovations. Mercedes-AMG’s commitment to innovation and driving excellence shines through in this grand touring car.

The SL43 starts at MSRP $109,900.
