Review of the 2022 Lexus LX 600: A Strong Three-Row SUV with a High-Powered Engine

The 2022 Lexus LX 600 sees significant improvements with the addition of a new third row. This redesigned three-row SUV offers seating for five or seven passengers, and four in the upgraded Ultra Luxury version. It competes with a range of vehicles such as the Infiniti QX80, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and BMW X7. The full-sized SUV boasts enhancements in power, fuel efficiency, and safety and convenience features. While the third row remains compact, its ability to fold flat into the floor is a notable improvement.

The exterior of the LX 600 maintains a familiar look of luxury, with a distinctive spindle grille design. The vehicle’s size and proportions are similar to its predecessor, with slight adjustments to the A-pillars and front end. The interior is elegant and inviting, with a rich design that complements the overall aesthetic of the vehicle.

The LX 600 is equipped with a more powerful and efficient powertrain, featuring a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers impressive performance. With a weight reduction of over 440 pounds due to measures such as aluminum doors and a new platform shared with the Toyota Tundra, the LX 600 offers agile handling and off-road capability.

The vehicle is powered by a twin-turbo V-6 engine that delivers 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The LX 600 offers six drive modes to tailor the driving experience, ranging from Eco to Sport +. The SUV’s performance is commendable, offering a quiet and stable ride with impressive towing capacity.

Standard features like four-wheel drive with a 2-speed transfer case and a center locking differential provide excellent traction and handling. The LX 600 is designed to handle various terrains with ease, thanks to its adaptive suspension and multiple terrain modes. The vehicle’s off-road capabilities are further enhanced by features like hill descent control and a variety of terrain settings.

The LX 600 excels in fuel efficiency, with a combined rating of 19 mpg. The vehicle’s driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control, offer enhanced safety and convenience. The cabin features a user-friendly center stack with a large touchscreen and physical controls, along with luxurious materials and comfortable seating for up to seven passengers.

In summary, the 2022 Lexus LX 600 is a top choice for those seeking a versatile and luxurious three-row SUV with robust performance and advanced features. The Lexus LX 600 comes with some notable features like USB ports, and ceiling vents. However, folding down or moving the second-row from the back can be a bit challenging due to the firm lever required. Behind the rear seats, you’ll find a narrow 11 cubic feet of storage space, which may not accommodate a cooler but could fit a set of golf clubs. On the bright side, the power-fold third-row seats easily fold flat into the floor, offering up to 64 cubic feet of cargo room when combined with the flat second-row seats (44 cubic feet with the second-row seats up).

The Ultra Luxury trim of the Lexus LX 600 caters to a more luxurious experience, suitable for upscale tastes in over 50 countries where it will be sold. This trim eliminates the third row and replaces the second row with a pair of captain’s chairs separated by a console featuring a 7.0-inch tablet for controlling massagers or reclining the seats up to 48 degrees. Additionally, a power ottoman descends from each front seatback for more legroom. Each front seatback also integrates an 11.4-inch entertainment screen, adding to the lavish experience. Despite these premium features, the cargo cover is attached to the back of the rear seats, making it more of a showcase feature than a practical one (though the rear seats can be removed with a screwdriver).

The Lexus LX 600 is packed with luxury elements and updated technology. Even the base model, priced at $88,245 in the Standard grade, comes well-equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, leather upholstery, heated power front seats, and four-zone climate control. This model also introduces a dual-screen interface with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports smartphone connectivity and features a wireless charger, a significant improvement over the previous system. Voice commands are highly responsive, and there’s a 7.0-inch screen dedicated to climate controls and off-road settings when the 2-speed transfer case is switched to 4L. Furthermore, a wireless smartphone charger and a 10-speaker audio system are standard across the lineup.

For those looking for more features, the $96,345 Premium trim adds a third row suitable for short trips and short individuals, along with additional USB ports, cooled front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, power folding third-row seats, a head-up display, a hands-free power liftgate, and a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather. The top-tier Ultra Luxury model, priced at $127,345, stands out with rear captain’s chairs and various other luxury features, costing around $20,000 more than last year’s top model. Lexus offers a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty that includes coverage for the first year or first 12,000 miles of scheduled maintenance.

In summary, the 2022 Lexus LX 600 presents a classic yet modern SUV design that doesn’t compromise on luxury and off-road capabilities. It maintains Lexus’s reputation for refined driving, excellent build quality, and reliability while incorporating updated styling, an efficient powertrain, and cutting-edge technology. The LX 600 stands out as a unique and commendable choice in the luxury SUV segment.
