The demand for compact crossover SUVs is on the rise, thanks to their convenience, safety, and versatility while remaining budget-friendly. These vehicles often offer practicality and a smooth ride, meeting the basic needs.
The CX-5 checks many of these boxes. It boasts attractive styling inside and out, setting it apart from its competitors. It also provides a more engaging and sporty driving experience, attracting drivers seeking a bit of excitement on the road without sacrificing luxury. The Honda CR-V offers stiff competition but falls short in some areas compared to the Mazda.
For the 2020 model year, Mazda has updated the CX-5 slightly, making it even better. Mazda now includes its i-Activsense suite of driver-assistance features as standard across the CX-5 range.
Features like automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights are just some of the features included in this system. The engine options for the CX-5 vary depending on the trim level.
The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with front-wheel drive.
For the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims, a more powerful turbocharged version of the same engine is available, producing 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft if using premium fuel. These trims come standard with all-wheel drive. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
While there have not been significant changes for the 2020 CX-5, the minor updates are sure to enhance its appeal. It appears that things are looking up for this vehicle, suggesting a promising future ahead.
