Infiniti is gearing up for a major update with new model features and electric powertrains set to be introduced by 2021. A significant step in this direction is the unveiling of the Project Black S prototype recently at an exclusive event in Paris. This innovative vehicle is projected to generate an impressive 563 horsepower and has been a collaborative effort with the Renault Sports Formula One Team.
Starting next year, rigorous testing on the track awaits the prototype, paving the way for future plans of mass production.
Distinctly, the prototype currently lacks the signature features of a Formula One race car. However, notable elements include dual air vents on the front hood and a wide front splitter.
The carbon fiber finishing on the rear wing enhances the vehicle’s aerodynamic profile, drawing parallels to Renault F1 race cars. This design contributes to exceptional downforce, enabling the car to handle speeds of up to 200 mph with ease.
A move towards electrification heralds a new era for Infiniti, with plans underway to electrify all models, promising a leap in performance. The incorporation of a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine equipped with three motor generator units ensures a substantial power boost.
The infusion of Renault Sport’s expertise into Infiniti signifies a step up in the vehicle’s capabilities. The collaboration involved detailed decision-making at Infiniti’s Hong Kong headquarters, while design aspects were overseen by Renault Sports Formula One Team in the UK in tandem with Renault Sports Racing in France.
