The fight for the best performance cars is on. Automakers are fighting with gloves off and consumers are having the last laugh. At the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show, Hyundai threw a spanner into the works by introducing a full-fledged electric Veloster race car. Dubbed the Veloster N ETCR, this car is meant to test the waters and chart the way forward in the company’s performance portfolio.
From the moment you lay your eyes on Hyundai, you get a feeling that you are looking at an epic machine that is extraordinarily gifted. The company gave it the looks of an internal-combustion, yet this car rides on a single motor that is mid-mounted.
Power goes to the rear wheels, making it an exceptionally capable vehicle. Watching this car work the tarmac, you can’t help to admire the sounds it produces. It is high on the pitch and you feel the power of although it produces a thin whistle-like sound that deviates from the loud grumble of combustion engines.
Hyundai says that this car borrows heavily from the lessons learned in developing the equally competitive i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR packages. The company further says that this will continue to be implemented on other electric vehicles in its growing stable. It is part of its growth strategy as it works to bring more such vehicles both for the road and track.
