This highly coveted 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR ‘McLaren Edition’ is set to be auctioned at Bonhams’ Scottsdale Auction on January 25, 2025, with a projected value of up to $825,000. This rare SLR is one of only 25 custom models crafted by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), making it a highly desirable collectible in the realm of supercars.
Equipped with a 5,439cc DOHC supercharged V8 engine, the SLR generates 617bhp at 6,500rpm, paired with a 5-speed AMG Speedshift R transmission and a four-wheel independent suspension system. Carbon-ceramic disc brakes provide superior stopping power, while the car’s performance is further enhanced by MSO’s handling package, steering, and damper upgrades.
Originally completed in 2006, the vehicle experienced an impressive makeover in 2011 when it was returned to the manufacturer for the McLaren Edition conversion. This update included a comprehensive MSO body kit, which consisted of a newly designed front bumper, revamped sill panels, and an enhanced rear airbrake that contributed to aerodynamic improvements by decreasing drag by 2.5%
The upgrades also introduced a set of black chrome 722S wheels and a lightweight titanium exhaust system, which contributed to a weight reduction of 30kg. Inside, the cabin was refreshed in an eye-catching Kilo Grey complemented by Oxblood leather, enhancing the vehicle’s custom allure.
Limited to just 25 units of the McLaren Edition SLR, each vehicle is uniquely customized, making this particular model one of the most exclusive and sophisticated iterations of the Mercedes-Benz SLR. The upgrades implemented by MSO not only enhanced its aesthetics but also improved its performance, establishing it as a genuine collector’s item. With minimal use since its comprehensive refurbishment, this SLR is in excellent condition, ideal for any serious collector’s collection.
