The automotive industry is abuzz with changes, and the gradual decline of fossil-fueled vehicles is becoming increasingly apparent.
Volvo had tantalized us with a groundbreaking high-performance coupe back in 2013 when it first unveiled the Concept Coupe at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Now, the innovative design and foundational elements of that concept have come to fruition.
What adds an interesting twist to this story is that this will mark Polestar’s inaugural standalone model, and the initial pre-production prototypes are already undergoing real-world testing. In December 2018, the coupe was back for another round of testing focused on performance and handling.
Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s chief test driver, emphasized, “This GT must be easy to drive and comfortable for everyday use.” The GT will boast a formidable 600-horsepower output from a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising a gasoline engine serving as a range extender, a lithium-ion battery pack, and at least two electric motors.
Reports suggest that the coupe will offer an electric-only range of nearly 100 miles. However, specific performance figures remain undisclosed, leaving room for anticipation of further details in the near future.
