When Ford launched the GT model, they initially planned to produce only 1000 cars. However, the supercar, which features a powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, has been in such high demand that even the additional 350 units will not meet market needs.
Director of Performance at Ford, Hermann Salenbauch, expressed joy at the incredible popularity of the supercar. The Ontario-made vehicle by Multimatic Inc. has received overwhelming demand, exceeding supply by more than six times.
For Ford enthusiasts, there is good news until 2020 as the company plans to conclude GT production with a total of 1,350 units. Order applications will reopen in November for a month to accommodate more potential buyers.
A unique aspect of Ford’s selection process for buyers is the use of a questionnaire to ensure the cars are driven rather than just collected as treasures. In the first round of applications, a total of 6505 orders were placed from various parts of the world.
The Ford GT, with a V6 engine producing 647 bhp and 746 Nm, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds and has a top speed of 216 mph.
The history and inspiration behind the Ford GT traces back to its four consecutive wins at the Le Mans 24-hour race from 1966 to 1969. This sporting car promises an adrenaline rush for racing enthusiasts.
