The Ford Explorer has gone through significant updates since its last major redesign in 2011. These changes have enhanced its performance and style offering a seamless blend of power and elegance.
The 2020 model sticks to a familiar formula but with added strength and increased size. It will be one of the pioneering models built on Ford’s new D6 platform designed for larger vehicles, providing versatility for front-, rear-, and all-wheel-drive setups.
While the new Explorer will primarily use a rear-wheel-drive layout, all-wheel drive will be available as an option. This setup mirrors what Lincoln will offer on the 2020 Aviator.
Aiming for improved fuel efficiency, the Explorer will introduce a 3.3-liter V-6 engine paired with an electric motor, delivering an estimated EPA combined rating of 24 mpg. The base model is anticipated to feature a turbocharged inline-4 engine with a natural-aspirated 3.3-liter V-6 also in the pipeline. Hybrid versions will integrate the 3.3-liter engine as well.
Replacing the current Explorer Sport, the powerful Explorer ST is set to make its mark with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine expected to generate up to 400 hp, surpassing its predecessor’s output.
Through these enhancements, the new Ford Explorer promises a compelling driving experience without compromising on its stylish appeal.
