The Lotus Emira has been in the works for sometime, and can trace its genesis back to the period when the British automaker announced that its “Type 131” project had kicked off. Over time, we slowly began to see a clearer picture of what the mysterious new car was shaping up to be.
First, it was given an official name—the Emira—and the company stated, in no uncertain terms, that it would not be an EV or even a hybrid. This is despite Lotus launching a very public campaign to produce a fully-electric roster of cars going forward, at around the same time.
Indeed that can only mean that the Emira will certainly be petrol-powered, and indeed it would also be the last Lotus of its kind. We’ve recently learned it will be a largely familiar one at that, with a mid-mounted 400 hp 3.5L supercharged V6 Toyota engine one of two options for sending power to the rear wheels.
Something perhaps a little different this time around, would be the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine—supplied by AMG—which will be the default powerplant on the more economical Emira trims that will be available after the initial release phase (exclusively consisting of V6 models).
Here’s a roundup of the best video reviews for the Lotus Emira. Stay tuned for our own in-depth coverage of the car, coming soon!
