The Shelby GT500, once the most powerful production Mustang until the introduction of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD with over 800 horsepower, was discontinued after the 2022 model year.
The Shelby GT500, the ultimate version of the sixth-generation Mustang, boasts a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine generating 760 horsepower. This power enables it to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 MPH. Can it outdo an Italian supercar like the Ferrari 296 GTS in a drag race?
The Ferrari 296 GTS is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a single electric motor, producing a combined 819 horsepower. Both cars come with dual-clutch automatic transmissions, but the 296 GTS’s lighter weight gives it an advantage in performance as it is significantly lighter than the GT500.
Tim Burton from the Shmee150 YouTube channel plans to settle the competition by organizing drag races between these two supercars.
