A Look At The All New Rolls Royce Spectre Lunaflair

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has introduced the stunning Spectre Lunaflair, a Bespoke project crafted for a prominent client from the United States. The standout feature of this exceptional vehicle is its remarkable holographic paint finish, which exhibits a dazzling ‘rainbow’ effect. The project draws its inspiration from the optical phenomenon known as a lunar halo, characterized by a colorful circle of light surrounding the moon. This effect occurs when moonlight filters through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds, functioning as microscopic prisms: the light is refracted, producing a mesmerizing technicolor ring reminiscent of light passing through a diamond.

Reproducing this phenomenon in a Bespoke paint finish required over a year of meticulous experimentation. The team thoroughly tested the paint chemistry, application techniques, and base coat to fulfill the client’s vision. The end result involves applying seven layers of lacquer, incorporating a specially developed pearlescent layer infused with fine particles of magnesium fluoride and aluminum. This process creates a rich metallic finish that appears deep under low light but bursts into vibrant rainbow hues when exposed to bright sunlight.

The Spectre Lunaflair concept draws partial inspiration from another bespoke creation: the one-of-a-kind Phantom Syntopia. Unveiled in 2023, this model showcases a dark iridescent Liquid Noir exterior that features pigmentation capable of shifting colors and resembling a mirror-like finish. Enamored by the Phantom Syntopia’s striking looks, the client sought the talents of the Bespoke Collective to manifest a brighter and more luminous interpretation of this idea, encapsulating their intrigue with the lunar halo effect.

This interplay of concepts illustrates how a prior commission can directly stimulate and inform the development of an entirely new narrative and concept, exemplifying the ethos behind Bespoke craftsmanship. For the luxury brand’s Bespoke Collective, which encompasses designers, engineers, and artisans, this enriching cycle of creativity fosters continuous avenues for enhancing their craft.

The striking coachwork of the Spectre Lunaflair is matched by a completely Bespoke interior. This interior features tones of Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink, reminiscent of the array of colors visible during a lunar halo. This color palette is evident on the seats, doors, and the Starlight Headliner, and it extends to the dual-tone steering wheel, showcasing a Navy Blue exterior and an Arctic White interior. Just a single unit of the Spectre Lunaflair will ever be crafted. The distinctive Lunaflair paint finish is exclusively reserved for the client who commissioned it.
