The 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Hybrid is the SUV I’ve been waiting for. As someone who loves the outdoors and spends my free time hiking, snowboarding, and chasing surf, I need a vehicle that can handle rugged adventures but also delivers comfort for my taller, larger frame. Toyota has nailed it with the redesigned Sequoia—it’s essentially a 4Runner on steroids, blending the bold, off-road toughness of its sibling with added size, power, and refinement. Whether it’s a weekend escape to the mountains or just a comfortable ride around town, the Sequoia TRD Pro feels like it was built with someone like me in mind.
Exterior Design
From the outset, the Sequoia TRD Pro exudes strength and readiness for any terrain. Its bold front fascia, complemented by a prominent grille and aggressive hood vents, imparts a sense of power. The V-shaped hood design, adorned with blacked-out vents, not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also underscores its off-road prowess. The vehicle’s elevated stance is both functional and stylish, providing ample ground clearance for off-road excursions. The large side mirrors offer excellent visibility and fold automatically when the vehicle is locked, showcasing Toyota’s attention to detail. All-New for 2024 is the color Terra, which is only available on TRD PRO grades. The Terra exterior color offers a hue that shifts between red and orange depending on the light.
Interior Comfort and Space
As you enter the vehicle, the Sequoia TRD Pro reveals a thoughtfully designed cabin that prioritizes space and comfort. There is plenty of room and the Sequoia offers a comfortable drive experience for longer road trips and is also a great daily driver. There is plenty of storage space which is ideal for stowing personal items. A standout feature is the large infotainment touchscreen, which is both intuitive and user-friendly, allowing for seamless navigation through various functions. The rear seats are power-folding, enabling effortless configuration of the cargo area to suit varying needs. The expansive interior accommodates taller individuals comfortably, with ample legroom and headroom across all three rows. I found it really simple to adjust the second and 3rd row seats. The 3rd row moves with a touch of a button from the trunk area. The interior is well planned and plenty of technology with options to customize the vehicle to your liking.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Sequoia TRD Pro is equipped with Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, combining a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers a robust 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, ensuring responsive acceleration and ample power for both on-road driving and off-road challenges. The 10-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, contributing to a refined driving experience. The Sequoia offers up to an impressive 9,520-pound maximum towing capacity, a nearly 22% increase over the prior generation. This powertrain not only enhances performance but also improves fuel efficiency compared to previous models. I felt like I had enough power when I needed it and that the gas mileage was pretty good as I averaged 21 MPG for the week.
Driving Experience
Driving the Sequoia TRD Pro makes every drive seem like an adventure. I really didn’t want to give it up after my test week. The elevated seating position provides a commanding view of the road, while the vehicle’s suspension system effectively absorbs road imperfections, resulting in a smooth ride. I did some light off-roading and the TRD-tuned Fox shocks and off-road suspension components are particularly beneficial when navigating rough terrains, offering stability and control. The inclusion of a step assist facilitates easy entry and exit, especially given the vehicle’s higher ground clearance. It is a fun vehicle to drive and even if you don’t venture into the unknown a whole lot , it’s still a great daily driver and family sized SUV.
Safety Features
Safety remains a cornerstone of Toyota’s design philosophy, and the Sequoia TRD Pro is no exception. It comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems that includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and pedestrian detection. The large side mirrors, combined with blind-spot monitoring, enhance situational awareness, while the automatic folding feature adds a layer of convenience and protection when parking in tight spaces.
Conclusion
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro successfully marries rugged capability with modern comfort and technology. Its imposing exterior design, spacious and well-appointed interior, powerful hybrid engine, and comprehensive safety features make it an irresistible contender for those seeking a versatile SUV. Whether tackling off-road trails or cruising through urban landscapes, the Sequoia TRD Pro stands ready to deliver a reliable and enjoyable driving experience.
