2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Look Review: Back to its Origin

The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of Toyota’s most iconic models, which is why we were sad to see it go a few years ago. Well it looks like Toyota never planned for it to be gone long, since it’s back for the 2024 model year. The good news is that the 2024 Land Cruiser is just as rugged as before, but it now has a smaller footprint and a much more attainable starting price.

The 2024 Land Cruiser is inspired by past Land Cruiser models, like the FJ40 and FJ62, like iconic round LED headlights and “TOYOTA” heritage grille on the 1958 trim level, while the standard trim gets slim, rectangular headlights reminiscent of the FJ62. The squared off body is also similar to past Land Cruiser models. Compared to the outgoing 200 Series, the new Land Cruiser is 4.4 inches narrower and 1.2
inches shorter, which actually makes it look and feel closer in size to the 4Runner. It’s just over three inches longer than the 4Runner.

You will probably also think the new Land Cruiser looks familiar, which is true, since it’s closely related to the 2024 Lexus GX. Both SUVs have similar profiles, but with brand specific front and rear fascias.

The 200 Series was powered by a V8, but Toyota has stopped building a V8 for its trucks. Instead of getting a V6, the Land Cruiser is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. The hybrid powertrain generates a combined 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a full time 4×4 system. We’ll have to wait until we get behind the wheel to see how well the Land Cruiser performs on and off-road.The Land Cruiser is also based on the same TNGA-F platform as the Tundra, Sequoia and the 2024 Tacoma.

Inside the Land Cruiser’s interior now only has two rows of seats, compared to three in the last Land Cruiser. The interior is far more modern now with the same look and feel that you’ll get in Toyota’s other newer truck models. There’s a fully digital instrument cluster and buyers can choose between either an 8- or 12.3-inch touchscreen.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will be available in three trims: 1958, Land Cruiser, and First Edition. The unique First Edition model adds a roof rack, rock rails, a front skid plate, and round headlights. Production of the Land Cruiser First Edition is limited to 5,000 units.

The good news is that the 2024 Land Cruiser is now a lot more attainable with a starting price in the mid-$50k range. It’s slated to arrive in the spring 2024.
