Mazda has a philosophy called Jinba-ittai, which they feel the car and driver should have a similar relationship to that of a horse and its rider. I can see this evolution of design and engineering present in the CX-90. In my opinion, the CX-90 has addressed all or at least most of the previous complaints about the CX-9, which was recently retired. I especially like the new exterior and the interior cabin layout and additional space.
Exterior:
The exterior of the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium looks classy and edgy. It definitely gets some second looks and people trying to figure out the brand and model. The stylish alloy wheels and chrome accents add a touch of sophistication, while the available panoramic sunroof enhances the overall aesthetic appeal. My tester has the exterior color Artisan Red Metallic. It is a beautiful shade of red and as the sun goes down you get a different look.
2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus review
Interior:
inside the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus the first thing I noticed was the beautiful white premium leather interior. It is a nice combo with the Artisan Red exterior. The seats not only look nice but they are very comfortable. This is a vehicle I could handle long commutes. The interior design puts everything in reach for the driver.
My test vehicle had the optional Captains chairs for the 2nd row of seating and they were really comfortable and every passenger mentioned this so it’s an option to consider if you plan on having adult passengers on the regular. We also had the 3rd row seating option for 6 passengers. There are even AC vents for that 3rd row which is a must have for Summer in Phoenix.
Overall the cabin is great for the driver and passengers. There is plenty of space for groceries, those trips to Costco where you buy way more than you planned and luggage for that road trip. The CX-90 Premium Plus also comes with advanced infotainment features, including a large 12.3 inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium audio system.
Engine and Transmission:
Under the hood, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus is powered by a robust and efficient engine. It is equipped with the E-SKYACTIV G 3.3-liter i-6 turbo engine that delivers 340 HP. The engine is coupled with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, providing seamless power delivery and enhanced fuel efficiency. All Turbo models feature M-Hybrid Boost, a 48V mild-hybrid system for greater efficiency, powers start/stop, accessories like AC etc. The engine gets 25 MPG combined which I think is pretty good when you look at the performance aspects of the vehicle.
Options Packages:
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus offers various options packages to suit individual preferences. These packages include the Technology Package, which adds advanced safety features and driver-assistance systems, and the Premium Package, which enhances the interior with additional luxury features such as Nappa leather upholstery, a premium sound system, and a heads-up display.

Mazda prioritizes safety, and the 2024 CX-90 Premium Plus reflects that commitment. It comes equipped with an array of advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system. The SUV market is highly competitive and Mazda jumps into the fray with a fierce competitor for model year 2024. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus has the looks and performance to back it up. Along with the options packages, safety features and MSRP, it is definitely an SUV to be considered while looking at the crowd of vehicles in this category.
