The 2023 Toyota Prius is a game-changer for eco-conscious car buyers. Toyota has stepped up its hybrid game by offering a stylish design and a sportier driving experience, all while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency.

Gone are the quirky looks of previous Prius models. The 2023 Prius has a more pleasing design, sitting lower to the ground and featuring a longer and wider body. This gives the Prius a sportier and more eye-catching appearance. It’s safe to say that the 2023 Prius is a head-turner.

Under the hood, the 2023 Prius is powered by a larger 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two motor-generators. This revamped hybrid system delivers a combined 194 horsepower, a significant improvement from the previous generation. The new Prius can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds, a big improvement over its predecessor.

If you’re looking for all-wheel drive, the Prius offers an additional electric motor that powers the rear wheels. This boosts the total output to 196 horsepower and gives it a 0-60 mph time of 7.0 seconds.

Despite the increase in power, the Prius continues to lead the way in fuel efficiency. It has a combined rating of up to 57 mpg, depending on the trim level. Even the all-wheel drive variants range from 49 to 54 mpg. For those who prioritize efficiency, the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid is also available.

During our testing, we noticed the significant increase in power. The Prius now accelerates more briskly, and it offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. The suspension and steering have also been upgraded, providing better feedback and improved performance. The Prius feels more planted on the road, thanks to its lighter weight.

The interior of the 2023 Prius features a more conventional design, replacing the previous model’s quirky styling. The center-mounted speedometer has been replaced by a digital screen in front of the driver, similar to the bZ4X electric SUV. However, some drivers may find the screen partially obstructed by the steering wheel depending on their height. The shifter has been relocated to the center console, eliminating the awkward placement of the previous model.

The Prius comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, and a larger 12.3-inch screen is available. The infotainment system runs on Toyota’s latest software, which is more user-friendly and has a modern look. The materials in the cabin have also been upgraded to give a more upscale feel. The lowered seats and reduced roof height contribute to a sportier driving experience, although headroom in the back may be slightly compromised. However, taller individuals have reported being comfortable in the second row. An optional fixed glass roof provides a more airy atmosphere.

On the safety front, the 2023 Prius includes the Toyota Sense 3.0 suite as standard. This suite incorporates a range of safety features, such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. The Proactive Driving Assist system automatically adjusts the Prius’s speed when approaching slower vehicles or navigating curves.

The 2023 Toyota Prius starts at $28,545, including destination charges. All-wheel drive can be added as an option for an extra $1,500, available across three trim levels (LE, XLE, and Limited).

In summary, the 2023 Toyota Prius offers a stylish and enjoyable driving experience for eco-conscious buyers. It has shed its unconventional styling and now delivers a more conventional and appealing design.
