I recently had the opportunity to test drive the latest addition to the Lexus lineup, the 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD. The Crossover SUV builds on the success of its predecessor. I found it easy to drive and park. It has Lexus style elements throughout and has some notable driving and performance enhancements over the previous model year. This vehicle is perfect for a daily driver and someone that can get away with a little less space but still wants an SUV style vehicle. It gets phenomenal gas mileage at an average of 39 MPG. Someone looking for a smaller, fuel efficient and stylish crossover with a good amount of technology built in would benefit from taking a closer look at the Lexus UX 250 H.

Exterior:

The 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD continues the trend of eye-catching design elements, now available in the stunning Grecian Water color which is the color of my test vehicle. The vehicle maintains a firm stance with an assertive and muscular style, ensuring it remains a head-turner. The iconic Lexus spindle grille, with the prominently displayed logo, remains a focal point, seamlessly integrated into the overall design. The front air curtains, LED headlights, and 18-inch split 5-spoke alloy wheels contribute to the vehicle’s dynamic profile. The rear features a rear spoiler with integrated brake lights and LED tail lights, creating a stylish and cohesive look. The rear break lights and running lights look really cool at night. It is one continuous band that flows nicely with the overall design. The body color shark fin antenna and distinctive blue logo on the liftgate add a touch of sophistication.

Interior:

In the realm of interior luxury, the 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD stands out with its thoughtfully designed and expansive cabin. Lexus pays attention to detail, the interior is comfortable and driver focused. The front seats, look great and are very comfortable. They are power-adjustable and make it easy to find that perfect setting for each individual driver. I did find the 2-way power lumbar support to be more comfortable on longer drives.

The cabin does reflect Lexus luxury and style. I was pleasantly surprised at the legroom and comfort of all the passenger seats including the rear. There is seamless integration of convenient features enhances the overall user experience.

Embracing modern connectivity, the 2023 UX 250h AWD caters to the digital lifestyle of today’s drivers. Strategically placed phone chargers ensure that your devices stay powered throughout the journey, keeping you connected without interruption.

The interior versatility extends to the cargo space, which features a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. This adaptable configuration allows you to customize the cargo area to suit your needs, providing additional space for larger items while maintaining seating for passengers. Whether you’re loading up for a weekend getaway or tackling daily errands, the UX 250h AWD effortlessly transitions between passenger comfort and cargo-carrying capability.

In essence, the interior of the 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD blends style with functionality, creating a driving environment that raises the bar in the Luxury Crossover SUV market. With its rich array of features, plush upholstery, and innovative design, Lexus is a strong competitor in the Crossover SUV segment.

Engine/Powertrain: Under the hood, the 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD continues to impress, powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0L four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The combination of an all-wheel-drive system, continuously variable-speed automatic gearbox, and a power output of 181 HP delivers a smooth and efficient driving experience. With a commitment to environmental consciousness, this hybrid vehicle maintains a commendable combined fuel economy of around 39 mpg.

Special Options/Package: New for 2023, the UX 250h offers exciting options, including premium triple beam headlights available at an extra cost. The premium package boasts heated and ventilated front seats, providing an additional layer of luxury and comfort for drivers.

Safety:

The new 2023 UXh comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 preventive safety technology. The aim is to prevent accidents, further reduce traffic injuries and fatalities and to lighten the burden on drivers.

  • The performance of the single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar has been improved to expand the response range of the Pre-Collision System (PCS), which is designed to detect daytime bicyclists and pedestrians in low-light conditions and, at intersections, to detect oncoming vehicles before right turns*2 and pedestrians crossing the street from the direction toward which the vehicle was traveling before it started to make a right or left turn. Also featured are functions such as Emergency Steering Assist, which assists steering within the vehicle’s lane as cued by the driver.
  • The lane-recognition functions of Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), which is an advanced driving support function that supports steering to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane, have been improved through the application of AI technologies that expand the assist range, resulting in smoother and more-continuous steering assist.
  • A curve speed-control function that decelerates the vehicle in advance according to the size of an approaching curve has been added to Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) (with an all-speed tracking function), which controls acceleration and deceleration so that the distance to an immediately preceding vehicle is constant within the speed set when driving on motor-vehicle-only roadways and others.

Conclusion:

The 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD builds on the success of its predecessor, offering an affordable hybrid model with enhanced urban style and driving dynamics. This is a well designed crossover SUV  and suited for drivers that want an SUV but don’t need a huge amount of cargo space. It gets great gas mileage at 39 MPG combined and it still has solid performance. You can get into a UX starting at MSRP is $36,690 and with all the options my test vehicle came in at MSRP $46,290. This hybrid crossover is an excellent choice for those seeking a vehicle that excels in different conditions while prioritizing safety.
