The 2023 KIA EV6 GT AWD Review

The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is in full swing, and the newly introduced 2023 KIA EV6 is a significant step forward in the world of electric vehicles. As the flagship model of KIA’s EV lineup, the EV6 combines advanced technology, exhilarating performance, and stylish design. Its impressive range, design, and advanced features make the EV6 GT AWD a strong competitor in the growing EV market. There are numerous aspects to appreciate for both EV enthusiasts and KIA fans. Let’s delve into the various components of this new EV and my experience testing the 2023 KIA EV6 GT AWD.

Exterior:

The exterior of the EV6 features striking design elements, including an aerodynamic yet stylish appearance. The vehicle comes with sleek gloss black accents, seamlessly integrated flush door handles, and modern details throughout. LED lighting is standard for all trims, providing both functionality and style. The GT (e-AWD) trim particularly stands out with exclusive Goodyear® Eagle® F1 summer tires and eye-catching neon green calipers, giving it a unique and distinctive look.

The EV6’s exterior exudes a sense of readiness for performance, and its design has garnered numerous accolades in 2023.

Interior:

The interior of the 2023 KIA EV6 offers surprisingly spacious accommodations with an emphasis on driver-centric ergonomics and passenger comfort. The cockpit strikes a balance between coziness and support, aligning with the vehicle’s focus on both comfort and performance. The inclusion of dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays brings a futuristic and cutting-edge aesthetic to the EV6. The GT sport front bucket seats, crafted with soft black suede and vibrant neon green accents, create a visually striking impression, particularly in low-light conditions. The 14-speaker Meridian® premium audio system ensures an immersive auditory experience for all passengers.

Motor and Transmission:

The 2023 KIA EV6 GT AWD is powered by a robust electric drivetrain, delivering exhilarating performance. With a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive capability, it provides instant torque and precise control on the road. The EV6 GT utilizes a Permanent Magnet AC Synchronous motor, generating an impressive 576 horsepower for jaw-dropping acceleration. The seamless coordination between the motors and advanced transmission ensures a smooth and highly responsive ride. The GT can accelerate from 0 to 60 in just 3.4 seconds, showcasing its impressive agility.

Driver Experience:

The Kia EV6 GT boasts 576 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 161 mph. This exceptional performance places it in the category of supercars, reflected in its certification as a winner in a 0-60 mph race against the Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan Evo. The EV6 GT is meticulously engineered for peak performance, featuring a 77.4kWh battery, a 160kW front motor, and a 270kW rear motor. It also introduces a “Drift Mode” for enhanced capacity and performance. Furthermore, it incorporates larger diameter disc brakes with quad-piston front calipers, a stiffened chassis, quicker ratio steering, electronically controlled suspension, and Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (e-LSD) to enhance its agility and handling.

The vehicle’s responsive handling and precise steering enhanced my sense of control and confidence on the road. Driving the EV6 was an exhilarating experience.

Awards:

The EV6 GT has received the 2024 Performance EV of the Year award, priced under $100,000. Additionally, the 2023 Kia EV6 was named the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. Furthermore, Kia excelled in long-term reliability according to J.D. Power, ranking highest among mass market brands.
