I have owned several Jeeps over the years and currently we have 2 in the family. Although I have driven many Jeeps over the years , I had no experience with the Compass until now. My week with the Compass Trailhawk 4×4 really was full of adventure. The Trailhawk edition is Jeep’s most capable off-road vehicle
The Compass was my companion on a snowy adventure in the White Mountains of Arizona. This is a very capable off-road vehicle. At the same time, it is a great daily driver and is functional for everyday needs from grocery getter to the hardware store.
Exterior
The Sting-Gray Clear-Coat exterior paint of the Compass Trailhawk exudes a commanding presence, accentuated by bold design elements such as the partial black hood and striking red decal. With distinctive red tow hooks and black wheels fitted with off-road tires, this Trail Rated capable SUV looks the part as well. The Off-road tires and road clearance add a nice finishing touch to this awesome looking 4×4.
Interior
Inside the Compass Trailhawk is a surprisingly luxurious interior. Soft-touch materials and meticulous stitching create an ambiance of refinement, while the 10.1-inch touchscreen display serves as the command center for the Alpine sound system, navigation, and connectivity features. The spacious cabin offers comfort for all passengers, with amenities including wireless phone charging, USB ports, and dual-pane panoramic moonroof. Everything is in easy reach of the driver and it is a pretty intuitive layout. The drive modes are especially easy to use and it came in handy on mountainous terrain while snow and thick fog appeared. The normal mode is auto and then you have different terrain types like Snow, Mud etc that you can quickly adjust as needed.
Engine and Transmission
Beneath the hood lies a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain combination ensures robust performance both on and off-road, making every drive an exhilarating experience.
Drive Experience
The Compass Trailhawk combines off-road prowess with refined on-road practicality. Whether navigating city streets or conquering challenging terrain, this SUV delivers a smooth and capable ride. With advanced features like adaptive cruise control, lane management, and blind spot monitoring, safety and confidence are paramount. It is an easy vehicle to drive and park. Because of its size and design, it has a really good turning radius. As mentioned earlier, drive modes are easy to get into and the Compass Trailhawk Edition performed really well off-road on muddy roads and in snow. It is a fun vehicle to drive and I think one that would fit a lot of people’s needs.
Safety
Equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies, including full-speed forward-collision warning, active braking, and pedestrian/cyclist emergency braking, the Compass Trailhawk prioritizes passenger protection. Additional features like park assist and rear backup camera further enhance convenience and peace of mind.
Conclusion
The 2023 Jeep Compass Trailhawk 4X4 stands true to Jeep’s commitment to adventure and capability. It is an easy SUV to fall in love with and at the end of the week I didn’t want to let it go. The Trailhawk edition is worth the extra money , especially if any amount of off-road adventure is what you seek. My test vehicle was MSRP $40,660 and you can get into a Jeep Compass starting at $25,900.
