the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring Review

This week I got to spend quite a bit of time with the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring. The new design of this Sixth-Generation CR-V is a step up from all the other body styles. For me, it is the most attractive and it looks more rugged and sporty which is what Honda was going for in this version. The CR-V has a big fan base and has won a lot of credible awards and this version should be no different.

Exterior:

The exterior of the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring has a more modern and athletic look than previous versions and Honda has really stepped up its game on the looks of the new CR-V. My test vehicle was in Canyon River Blue. The dark blue with the black alloy wheels and interior really give the CR-V a more masculine look and it just looks ready for action.

Some of the new exterior enhancements feature sleek lines, a bold front grille, and distinctive LED headlights. The nose is longer and this for me was the biggest exterior design improvement. The sporty accents, including 19-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust finishers, and roof rails are also noticeable enhancements. There is methodology behind the new design as it is more aerodynamic and this improves fuel efficiency which is quite impressive at 40 MPG in the city.

Interior:

If you are familiar with the CR-V, you will immediately notice the design improvements in the cabin and soon after the abundant space for passengers and cargo. It is a comfortable car to drive and passengers appreciate the extra space as well. The Sport Touring trim boasts luxurious leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats, adding a touch of sophistication to the driving experience. Furthermore, the convenient 60/40 split rear seatbacks effortlessly fold down, allowing for increased cargo capacity and enhancing the SUV’s overall versatility.

The touch screen is 9 inches and has all the features you would expect from Honda or any other advanced technology vehicle. Standard features include a digital instrument display and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. CR-V EX-L and Sport Touring have a large 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ and wireless phone charging.

The new CR-V is quieter, more comfortable and features the most cabin and cargo space in the model’s history.

Engine and Transmission:

An all-new, more-advanced, fourth-generation two-motor hybrid system gives the new CR-V hybrid greater performance. The new system uses an all-new and more refined 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine, now with direct fuel injection, mated to a pair of more powerful electric motors which are mounted side-by-side rather than in-line. It generates 247 lb.-ft. of torque, a 15 lb.-ft. Improvement.

The bottom line is more power than any other CR-V and you still get remarkable gas mileage. Some critics may say it still lacks in overall horsepower but when you look at overall performance, I think there is a lot to applaud with the blend of power and gas mileage.

Options Packages:

The CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring comes generously equipped with a range of features, but Honda also offers optional packages to enhance the ownership experience further. These include packages such as the Convenience Package, which adds features like a power tailgate, wireless phone charging, and a hands-free access power tailgate. The Technology Package is also available, providing advanced safety features, a premium audio system, and a navigation system.

Safety Features:

Honda prioritizes safety, and the 2023 CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring is equipped with an array of advanced safety features. It includes Honda Sensing®, a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies that consists of collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. Other safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a multi-angle rearview camera.

Awards:

The Honda CR-V has a history of accolades, and the 2023 CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring continues this tradition.

The editors of Car and Driver have awarded the Honda CR-V a coveted 10Best Award, honoring the all-new 2023 CR-V for its rugged styling, increased interior space and available sporty hybrid-electric performance. This is the fourth time CR-V has won a 10Best Award.

Why People Like It:

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring appeals to a wide range of drivers for various reasons. The hybrid powertrain offers exceptional fuel efficiency, making it an environmentally friendly choice without sacrificing performance. The spacious interior and flexible cargo space provide practicality for families and individuals alike. The abundance of safety features ensures peace of mind on the road, while the modern design and comfortable cabin create an enjoyable driving experience.

Conclusion:

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD Sport Touring combines the best of both worlds—an efficient hybrid powertrain and the versatility of an SUV. With its sporty exterior, comfortable interior, advanced safety features, and fuel-efficient performance, it offers an appealing option for those seeking a well rounded vehicle for a very fair price point.

You can get into a Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid starting at MSRP $33,350 , my test vehicle was at MSRP $38,600.
