Updated Nurburgring Lap Time Regulations
In 2019, Nurburgring officials extended the Nordschleife lap distance from 12.800 miles to 12.944 miles. Therefore, the previous Type R achieved a time of 7 minutes 44.8 seconds on the 12.8-mile lap.
Six years since the last Civic Type R set the record, the 2023 model has now reclaimed the title.
Highlights of the Honda Civic Type R’s Record-Breaking Performance
Equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires, the 2023 Civic Type R showcased its capabilities on the Nurburgring. While these tires are optional, the standard variant comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.
Honda made significant exterior enhancements to the new model while making minimal adjustments to the powertrain. The K20C1 engine now generates 315 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque, a modest increase of 9 HP and 15 lb-ft over its predecessor. Additionally, it features a standard six-speed manual transmission.
Additional Lap Records Held by the Civic Type R
In addition to the Nurburgring achievement, the Honda Civic Type R has set lap records at various other tracks. Notably, it conquered the Suzuka Circuit in 2 minutes 21.120 seconds, demonstrating its impressive performance capabilities.

The US market saw the Civic Type R being introduced in late 2022 at a launch price of US$43,990 (including destination charge). Presently, the retail price of the vehicle stands at US$44,390.
