# **Mazda 3 Review: The Ideal Car for 2022**

The 2022 Mazda 3 is targeting discerning compact car buyers with its luxurious interior and exceptional handling. Available as a sedan or hatchback, the Mazda 3 boasts attractive interiors and a plethora of safety features. It competes with cars like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Hyundai Elantra.

The Mazda 3 exudes a touch of sophistication similar to Mazda’s SUVs. The hatchback, however, has thick rear pillars that obstruct the view, setting it apart from traditional compact cars. Both the sedan and hatchback sport a broad, shield-shaped grille with a sporty tilt, creating an athletic appearance. The sleek design is accentuated by slim LED headlights that blend into the fenders seamlessly. While the sedan boasts a conventional shape that gently tapers towards the rear, the hatchback features a more distinctive rear design with a robust pillar, offering a unique charm.

Mazda has infused the Mazda 3 with precise handling. Over time, the Mazda 3 has evolved to offer a more comfortable ride coupled with sharp steering, placing it ahead of most compact cars. The base models come with a 155-hp 2.0-liter inline-4 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. For a better fit for its size, consider opting for the upgraded 186-hp 2.5-liter inline-4 engine, offering more power and torque, albeit requiring a heavier foot on the throttle to unleash its full potential. Those looking for more power can opt for the 227-hp 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine that can propel the 3 from 0 to 60 mph in under six seconds. However, its 6-speed automatic transmission, while smooth, offers fewer gears compared to newer models, impacting fuel efficiency and performance.

While the Mazda 3 may have lost some of its previous agility, the added power compensates for it. The car still boasts direct and well-weighted steering, although the suspension setup allows for more body lean during cornering, translating into a more comfortable ride but with reduced agility, particularly in turbocharged models. The Mazda 3 offers good fuel efficiency in non-turbo models, while the Turbo versions consume more fuel. Safety-wise, the Mazda 3 excels, receiving a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ award. It comes equipped with a range of advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.

Inside, the Mazda 3 impresses with its premium materials and thoughtful design details, creating an upscale ambiance. The interior, while visually appealing, may feel a bit cramped, especially in the back seats and trunk area. The supportive front seats offer adequate comfort, with optional features like power-adjustable seats and leather upholstery enhancing the driving experience. Although there isn’t ample storage space in the cabin, the Mazda 3 compensates with a well-designed interior layout and quality finishes.

In terms of infotainment, the Mazda 3 may fall short of expectations, lacking a touchscreen display and intuitive controls. The base model offers essential features like cloth upholstery, keyless start, LED headlights, and an infotainment system with a rotary controller. However, advanced features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto become available on higher trims, offering a smoother user experience.

Overall, the Mazda 3 stands out as a well-rounded compact car that blends driving dynamics, comfort, and style effectively. With its impressive Turbo models and Mazda’s reputation for reliability, the Mazda 3 proves to be a compelling choice for small car buyers looking for a balance of performance and comfort.
