In a classic showdown between an electric car and a high-performance supercar, MotorTrend’s YouTube channel recently pitted the American Lucid Air Sapphire against the Ferrari SF90 Spider in an intense drag race.
The Ferrari SF90 Spider is equipped with cutting-edge hybrid technology, featuring a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and three electric motors. The V8 engine alone generates an impressive 769 hp, which is enough to rival most supercars. The electric motors add an additional 217 hp, bringing the total combined output to an astonishing 986 hp, surpassing even the LaFerrari. This immense power is channeled to all four wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that offers excellent responsiveness.
Known for its incredible speed, the Ferrari SF90 Spider is one of the fastest performance cars on the market. It boasts an official top speed of 211 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Surpassing the 124 mph mark (200 km/h) takes a mere 4.5 seconds, and it completes the quarter-mile run in an impressive 10.1 seconds, reaching a blistering speed of 148 mph. These exceptional performance figures were previously only seen in top-tier hypercars.
On the other hand, the Lucid Air Sapphire is fully electric and features three electric motors, resembling the setup found in the Tesla Model S Plaid but with even more horsepower. Although the exact horsepower figure hasn’t been disclosed by the manufacturer, the American electric model boasts over 1,200 horsepower. Lucid claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2 seconds. However, its relatively high weight, nearly 2.5 tons, puts limitations on its dynamic capabilities.
