When Mercedes brought journalists to Oslo to test drive the 2020 Mercedes EQC 400 compact SUV, it was evident that Oslo’s charging infrastructure and high prevalence of electric vehicles such as Teslas, Hyundai Konas, and BMW i3s set the stage for a promising electric vehicle market.
Norway, a significant crude oil and gas exporter, has plans to ban internal combustion engine cars by 2025, further driving the adoption of electric vehicles like the EQC.
The EQC shares similarities with the Mercedes GLC, including its suspension and safety features. Despite being heavier by about 150 kg, officials claim that this does not compromise its performance.
The interior of the EQC is luxurious and intuitive, featuring touch controls that respond promptly to commands. The voice command feature, “Hey, Mercedes,” enables the driver to access information about driving range, nearby charging stations, and customize trip settings and charging schedules.
Equipped with an 80kWh battery, the EQC offers a driving range of approximately 277 to 293 miles. Charging the battery takes around four hours, positioning it competitively against other electric vehicles on the market.
The rise of electric vehicles signals a shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.
