The Lotus Elise: A Classic Model By Lotus

If you were to say that the Lotus Elise has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 1996, you wouldn’t be far off. The familiar bonded aluminum chassis is a testament to its consistent design over the years.

Despite its age, the Lotus Elise continues to impress as a lightweight sports car, setting it apart in its class. It boasts a range of unique features that define its character.

When it comes to engine options, the Lotus Elise offers a choice between a naturally aspirated four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine and a supercharged 1.8-liter engine. The Toyota-sourced engine has undergone significant enhancements to meet motorsport standards, catering to those seeking a sportier driving experience.

Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales has hinted at a reinvention of the Lotus Elise in 2019, while maintaining the core values that have made it a beloved model. Gales expressed his commitment to retaining the aluminum-bonded chassis that has been a defining feature of the Elise, offering versatility across different versions like the Elise, Exige, and Roadster.

Looking ahead, Lotus plans to introduce a larger SUV by 2020 to align with evolving market trends. However, the lightweight class vehicles such as the Elise and Exige continue to hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts due to their practicality and unique appeal.
