We are seeing a lot of disruptive ideas in the automotive industry all driven by technology. It is now promising to be even juicer as more “outrageous” but rather brave ideas get tested.

Google co-founder and CEO of Kitty Hawk, Larry is working on a project that can help scale through traffic in the most efficient way-taking to the sky. The startup has unveiled an autonomous flying taxi called Cora whose tests will be conducted in New Zealand.

There are several very exciting aspects of this car. To start with, it is all electric, making it a quiet and Eco-friendly. Then, you need no pilot abilities to steer the Cora.

Actually, all you do is sit and as three computer systems mind the piloting business. They work so efficiently that even if one of the computers fail, you are still kept afloat. If it gets worse, you will be able to land safely from an attached parachute.

What drives the vehicle? Cora has 12 independent lift fans on the wings that help the craft get into the air and land safely. Even if they fail, the vehicle will still be able to take off and land safely.

Cruising at a maximum speed of 110 miles per hour (180 kilometers per hour), it is able to scale at altitudes between 500 and 3,000 feet (about 152 and 914 meters). This is much lower than a commercial aircraft, but you can’t complain considering the troubles you are saved from the land below.
