New lap time rules at Nurburgring
Back in 2019, officials at the Nurburgring have now increased the Nordschleife lap from 12.800 miles to 12.944 miles. Hence, when the last Type R did the record, it clocked the 12.8 mile lap in 7 minutes 44.8 seconds.
Now, it has been six years since the last Civic Type R set the record and this time it is the 2023 Civic Type R that hence once again set the record.
Details of the record breaking Honda Civic Type R
The 2023 Civic Type R was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires. These are available with Honda dealers, but the Civic Type R comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires as standard.
Compared to the outgoing car, Honda has tweaked the exteriors quite a bit, but made only a few changes to the powertrain. The K20C1 engine now makes 315 HP and 310 lb-ft. of torque. Compared to the outgoing car, these numbers are just 9 HP and 15 lb-ft. more. A six-speed manual transmission is standard.
Other lap records by Civic Type R
Apart from the Nurburgring record, the Honda Civic Type R also Honda a few other lap records. These include the Suzuka Circuit with a 2 minutes 21.120 seconds. In comparison, the FK8 needed 2 minutes 23.993 seconds to complete the challenging 3.6 mile lap.
Honda Civic Type R : Price
In the US, the Civic Type R has been on sale since late 2022. The price of this car was set at US$ 43,990 (including destination charge) at the time of launch. Now, the retail price of the car reads as US$ 44,390.
