Maserati is preparing for a shift towards an all-electric lineup by 2030. In the meantime, car enthusiasts can revel in the V8-powered Levante Trofeo, which delivers a thrilling driving experience.

The 2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo boasts a striking design with bold color options like the eye-catching Urban Green. Its sleek lines and sloping roof give it a stylish appearance. However, the real excitement lies under the hood.

Equipped with a Ferrari-built twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine producing 580 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, the Levante Trofeo doesn’t disappoint. The V8 features twin-scroll turbochargers with dedicated intercoolers and other enhancements, making it responsive with a broad power band and a penchant for high revs. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, offering dynamic driving modes like Sport and Corsa for an exhilarating performance.

Acceleration is impressive, with the Levante Trofeo reaching 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph. The engine’s melodious soundtrack adds to the driving experience, especially in Corsa mode.

The Levante Trofeo’s chassis strikes a balance between sportiness and SUV practicality. Its steering is precise, body roll is minimal, and the suspension can be adjusted through various driving modes. While the air suspension may feel unsettled at times, switching to Sport or Trofeo mode improves the ride quality significantly.

Despite its sporting prowess, the Levante Trofeo falls short in fuel efficiency, achieving 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Inside, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system named Maserati Touch Control Plus offers functionality but appears somewhat dated compared to rivals. The interior materials, while luxurious in parts, lack consistency, with some elements looking and feeling cheap.

The Levante Trofeo provides ample room for passengers in both rows, although its cargo space is smaller than competitors due to the sloping roofline. Pricing for the 2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo starts at $157,695, with options easily driving the cost beyond $170k.

In conclusion, the Maserati Levante Trofeo delivers a thrilling driving experience with its potent engine and engaging dynamics. As Maserati moves towards an electric future, it remains to be seen whether the brand can retain the magic of its performance-oriented models.
