Lamborghini initially made it clear that the Asterion was just a concept car and would not go into production. Despite this decision, the impact of the Lamborghini Asterion on the future development of its cars is undeniable.
The unveiling of the Asterion concept took place at the 2014 Paris Motor Show as a plug-in hybrid. Even at that time, it was evident that the vehicle showcased impressive qualities and innovative approaches for a supercar.
Equipped with a mid-mounted 5.0-liter V10 engine borrowed from the Huracan, producing 602 bhp, the Asterion also featured three electric motors which brought the total power output to 897 bhp. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 60 seconds, this car displayed immense potential, reaching a top speed of 199 mph.
Lamborghini hinted at integrating this technology into its SUVs, leading to substantial advancements and faster progress in this direction. In response to stringent CO2 regulations, the Asterion was touted to achieve a range of 31 miles on electric power alone. Lamborghini described it as a “model that could be realistically produced today, using technologies currently available.”
In the past five years, significant strides have been made in this technology sector. While the chances of the Asterion concept being revived are slim, it would undoubtedly delight customers if it ever made it to production.
