Information about the 2022 Subaru Forester

Subaru is well-known for producing long-lasting and dependable vehicles designed for speed. However, in response to the increase in demand for SUVs in the 21st Century, many manufacturers have had to reevaluate their offerings. Subaru has found success in the compact crossover segment with the introduction of the 2022 Subaru Forester.

Recently, I had the opportunity to test drive the 2022 Subaru Forester and one standout feature was its flat-four engine, providing excellent acceleration, and its practical design with an outdoor touch. Competing with popular models like the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4, the Forester comes with standard all-wheel drive.

Exterior

In a market where SUV exteriors often share similarities, the 2022 Subaru Forester sets itself apart. Boasting standard 17-inch wheels and a rear spoiler, the vehicle exudes quality and sophistication. Its sleek design lends a touch of luxury, and the range of color options allows for personalization.

Compared to competitors like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Forester’s exterior design elevates it above the typical mid-range SUV look focused on practicality.

Interior

I had the chance to experience the more luxurious Touring model of the 2022 Subaru Forester, and I noticed its straightforward approach. The vehicle offers a comfortable seating position with leather upholstery for a touch of luxury.

Metallic plastic trims on the dashboard and other areas provide a design element often lacking in larger SUVs. Emphasizing practicality, the spacious interior offers ample room for storing essential gear. Additionally, the rear seats can be folded to increase cargo space.

Across different models, the Forester comes with a standard 6.5-inch display (except for the Touring model that features an 8-inch display) with front USB ports. Rear USB ports are also available. Wi-Fi with 4G LTE connection is standard on all models except the base model.

Engine/Powertrain

All models of the 2022 Subaru Forester are equipped with the same 2.5-liter flat-four cylinder engine, generating 182 horsepower and capable of towing around 1,500 pounds. Power is supplied through a Continuous Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT), a signature feature of Subaru’s all-wheel-drive vehicles.

While not the fastest option available, the Forester can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 8 seconds. However, it falls short in speed against turbocharged competitors like the Honda CR-V and the Mazda CX-5.

Regarding fuel efficiency, the Forester offers around 28 MPG on the highway and 25 MPG in the city. Annual fuel consumption is estimated at around 26 MPG, resulting in approximately $250 higher fuel costs over a 5-year period compared to the average new vehicle.

Special Options/Package

The 2022 Subaru Forester provides various options and packages from the base version to the fully-loaded Touring Edition. While the Touring model includes additional features like a larger infotainment display and extra Wi-Fi connectivity, all models share the same engine.

Standard across all models is a 6-speaker audio system. The Premium models, offering a good balance of price and features, seem particularly appealing.

Safety

Safety features in the 2022 Subaru Forester include automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and the EyeSight suite with cameras aiding in parking and driving. The NHTSA has awarded it a 5-star safety rating.

Verdict

The 2022 Subaru Forester is a practical choice offering great value without a hefty price tag. While it may not match the power or speed of some competitors, its spacious interior and functional design make it ideal for various needs.

The base model starts around $26,570, with additional packages available for $1,800. For those seeking a more luxurious experience, the Touring model is priced at $36,420. The Premium model at $29,320 provides a good balance of features and affordability.

Overall, the 2022 Subaru Forester is recommended for its practicality and usability, making it a solid choice in its segment.
