Some vehicle brands have a way of nostalgically forming indelible memories in the minds of enthusiasts. Interestingly, the love displayed for them traverses borders and they become conspicuous road stars that make heads turn wherever they cruise. One such car that has graced several generations over its 50 years of existence is the Peugeot 504.

Regardless of where you are, you are unlikely to miss the benign lion trademark followed that sits stoically on the front grille and on the rear. Peugeot 504 is celebrating 50 years this year but there are some news regarding its impending metamorphosis.

At the Paris Auto show in October, the company introduced the e-Legend all-electric prototype that will ride on the platform of the 504. It will so much carry the brand’s genes that designer director Gilles Vidal said it will find “its deep strength in the DNA of the Peugeot 504 Coupé.”

This is enough to send enthusiasts on an overdrive and to patiently wait at what becomes of the new creation. We are in the electric car bubble and any serious automaker knows they can’t afford to slumber on this one.

The e-Legend promises to drive on all four wheels, making about 600 kilometers (370 miles) on a single charge. Though several others can challenge its four seconds spring from 0-62 mph, it is still very competitive.

Furthermore, if it maintains the 450 bhp and 590 pound-feet torque, then it will not be doing too badly either. This is possible if Peugeot us realistic about the envisioned 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack.

Keep in mind also that it comes in four driving modes; two autonomous and two with a human-interface mechanism(manual). The autonomous modes are called Soft and Sharp.

The manual modes are named Legend and Boost. The main difference between Soft and Sharp is that on Soft, there will be only a display of vital information while Sharp allows more interaction where either for business or social media networking.

Move to Boost and you have the road ahead displays on a screen right in front of the driver with 180 degrees viewing angle. By all standard, there is a promise of in-depth use of technology on this car which is very well deserved. We are closely watching this space.
