The black car is so iconic that Bugatti named one of their supercars La Voiture Noire, which translated from French means the black car. Well BMW is getting into the black car competition market offering the darkest black car on the market.
In partnership with Surrey Nano Systems and Levitation 29, BMW creates the blackest car in the world.
The new black paint color is called Vantablack VBx2 that is grown from carbon nanotubes that absorb more light than any other color, making it appear as the blackest black. In the purest form of the paint, it blocks 99.96% of visible light acting as an optical illusion that transforms the shape of the vehicle. The reason vantablack is heavily sought after is the scarcity of the product that is worth more than the value of gold and diamonds (per ounce) so in the true form of their level of luxury, BMW used it as car paint for their X6 model.
If you’re wondering when the car will hit the market, don’t hold your breath since the vehicle with the vandablack paint isn’t for sale. BMW will be using this model to study the light-absorbing properties in congruence with self-driving technology. Their goal for this car is to trick the human mind into thinking it’s looking into a black hole or void, making it appear two-dimensional with less definition on the body design.
From conception to completion, it took 10 months for this project. The model of the vehicle featuring the vandablack paint is worth $64,300 without the coating of the vandablack paint, leaving many car enthusiasts guessing the value of the vandablack paint vehicle which is not for sale any time soon.
