2022 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo AWD Review

The 2022 Mazda3 AWD stands out as a top performer in the compact car category. It’s no surprise that Mazda has received accolades for this vehicle. From its appealing exterior and interior design to its enjoyable driving experience, there is much to appreciate about this car. The exterior features a stylish Snowflake White Pearl color with a striking red interior, enhanced by the premium plus package.

Highlights

What stood out for me were the sporty exterior design, the sleek interior, and the engaging and comfortable driving dynamics. The vibrant red exterior is eye-catching, while the white interior is ideal for sunnier climates like Arizona’s greater Phoenix area.

Driver Experience

While not exceptionally fast, the car offers responsive acceleration, prioritizing ride quality and driver engagement—a characteristic Mazda is known for. With precise steering, one feels in command behind the wheel. The firm yet comfortable ride copes well with varied road conditions, while the good gas mileage ensures easy acceleration. Overall, the Mazda3 is a reliable daily driver with excellent handling.

Interior

The interior of the Mazda3 blends style with comfort, embodying a minimalist design ethos. While it may take some time to get used to the console controls on the center console, this placement facilitates easier access without diverting attention from the road. The standard 8.8-inch infotainment display appears larger than it is, complemented by the plush and chic leather seats. The red interior trim strikes a balance between aesthetics and comfort, further elevated by the upscale Bose 12-speaker system.

Exterior

The exterior design of the Mazda3 is commendable for its intentional play with light and well-calculated lines, rightfully earning Mazda the World Car Design of the Year award for the 3 model. The Snowflake White Pearl exterior finish exudes sophistication, complemented by thoughtfully integrated lighting elements that accentuate the car’s contours. Convenient features like the power side mirrors with integrated turn signals and memory positioning, as well as the power sliding-glass moonroof, enhance both functionality and aesthetics.

Engine / Powertrain

Equipped with a Skyactiv G 2.5 L four-cylinder engine producing 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, the Mazda3 offers improved acceleration compared to its previous iterations, while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency. The AWD variant achieves 23/31 MPG (city/highway) and a combined 26 MPG, striking a fine balance between power and fuel economy.

Safety

Every Mazda 3 is equipped with Mazda’s i-Activsense suite, featuring advanced safety technologies such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, automatic high-beams, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The Mazda 3 has earned high safety ratings and accolades, including a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Conclusion

While not the most budget-friendly option in its segment, the 2022 Mazda Mazda3 AWD Turbo offers exceptional value for its price. It delivers a thrilling driving experience, boasts an attractive design inside and out, and excels in fuel efficiency. It stands out as one of the most well-rounded compact cars available.
